After-Work Date-Night Outfit
Building a Transitional Outfit
For the WORKDAY
you have a date planned afterward but you don’t have time to go home to change. What to do? Well, you figure out how to get a dual purpose out of your outfit. If you work in an environment with a strict, more conservative dress code, then what you may want to wear on a date may NOT be the same outfit. So, what to do?
First, consider aspects of your traditional work outfit, and then consider aspects of your traditional date outfit.
A traditional work outfit may mean that you reveal less skin or less cleavage is exposed. A date outfit may be a bit more revealing or figure flattering. Now of course this is subjective depending on what your work environment considers appropriate vs inappropriate or your dating-attire preference. These considerations may help you find a happy medium for the perfect after-work date-night outfit.
WHERE TO START
Take for example, a more traditional work environment that permits dresses. Well, for a date outfit, you consider something more figure flattering, which combine may mean you try a figure-flattering dress.
Here I added a shirt, under a form-fitting dress. I took one element of what I would normally wear on a date (i.e., something form-fitting) and considered it for my work outfit (i.e., a black dress). I happened to have a dress that I thought would be just fine for work, with a jacket or blazer or a shirt underneath.
NEXT,
if you want to add more to “tame” this outfit down a bit, I would add something over it like a jacket. It especially works if you’ll be inside. If you’ll be outside, you can try a light overlayer for the workday and take it off for the date. The jacket is DEFINITELY makes it transitional.
In this case, I added a cropped, leather jacket (thrifted, vintage). It adds a layer but also an edgy touch because of the shoulder structure. With this type of structure, I can create a more conservative look for the workday. And since it’s a jacket, I can easily remove it for the date after work.
Okay, so start with what you would normally wear to work. Then, consider how you can spice up your fit for
Work-Day Date-Night.
